I am thinking about learning how to program. Well I used to work in BASIC and a little Python but not much else. I would like to learn c++. My question is should I learn c++ straight as oposed to learing another language first then moving to c and if so how should I go about it? A class maybe? A particular book? Like I said I have done some programming in BASIC so I have the foundation of things but I really would like to learn c and c++ mostly for my other work. Any suggestions?

Better you learn C first then move on to C++ in that way you will find it more easy to cope with C++. Hope the idea OOP inheritance...etc in C++ won't scare you away
Classes would be good idea for learning C then after you've mastered C I think you could get books and read about C++. There are tons of good C++ books out there.
Check out books of author Walter Savitch he got some good books, they're easy to comprehenced.
