test and run mainfarme programs (COBOL/CICS/D

December 5, 2010 at 10:03:21
Specs: Windows 7
I expected to be able to develop, test and run mainfarme programs (COBOL/CICS/DB2/VSAM/JCL) in my PC (intel core i7//64 bit/1.60 GHZ/4 MB ram) underWindows 7. Per my research Micro Focus Mainframe Enterprise Express and CA-REALIA both might work fine .
I have not experience with mainframes' emulator working on personal computers
Please, if anybdy can help me, I would like to get any input about the following:
Question 1) Is it the unified environment for mainframe development on personal computers?
Question 2) Where can I buy this product? Some one knows any vendors?
Question 3) Is there any other product/compiler/emulator that anyone can recomend to do the job in PC under windows 7?

THANKS so much in advance for your time and help.

The following may be your best starting point to visit the IBM System 370/390 jurassic park

Hercules is an Open Source S/370-390 emulator for Linux and Windows environments. It enables the creation of a virtual mainframe system on your PC that must be dressed by installing an OS like MVS/SP or DOS/VS. You can find links to IBM documents and software too as MVS/SP is released under public license.

If you are interested in that world you can't miss this site and more the software is free.

I spent thirty years as system analist/programmer/manager around IBM mainframes and planned to setup Hercules, but other deals eated my time so never went ahead onto that lane after retired.
