I'm not sure that this will help, but
1- you can try taking a batch programming tutorial (which is pretty simple) on http://blacksun.box.sk
2- you can find a way to extract files using simple compression applications (such as unace32.exe or unrar32.exe or even pkzip.exe or unzip.exe) that you can find easily on the net.

You can go to Mind Vision to get a Free trial of IVise installer. I have a previous version and it is absolutely wonderful. You can do everything. Registry, dialogs, variable, customized installations, run programs, rub batches, etc. Very good.
You could also use WinZip self-extractor.
