Comment: I was wondering if somebody could please write me a QBASIC program that would emulate the working of Windows XP, only run better and faster. If you could keep the number of program lines under 10,000 so that I can fit it onto a singe 3.5" floppy, that would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Reply: (edit)No problem. I have already done that (and it is a 128bit version too, I like to call it "Windows YP...well Y Not? I gotta go." I can send it to you via IM or Email, it is 3k compressed and 1.42mb uncompressed, so it will fit nicely on the floppy disk. (eigher DD or HD) In addition, it NEVER crashes, doesn't require you to call me whenever you build a new computer and want to install it on that new system (since you bought the damn thing you should be able to upgrade your PC without having to but it AGAIN, or be hassled by ME), it includes the source code (just like XP...oh wait, no microsoft is not open source...well whatever), it is written in QBASIC but includes a conversion program that can spit out Java, C++, Fortran, COBOL, PLC, PL1, Assembly, C#, Visual Basic, GFA Basic, or Perl source code (with comments). Oh and I almost forgot, nothing you install in it requires a reboot of your system... ah hell, its too easy, I could go on forever... :0 Thanks for the post...I needed that! Chi Happens

Reply: (edit)Make sure you use at least QuickBasic 4.5. At least you can save it as an ".exe" executable. With QBasic you would have to load it into the editor and run it with the QBasic interpretor. That really would be slow!!!

Reply: (edit)Yes. Good point. Speed it definately a factor. I need it to be able to boot in under 2 seconds and also run on a TI-85 calculator if necessary. Keep the .BAS file handy though in case I want to make any changes and recompile... a custom boot screen or something along that nature perhaps. Now let's see.... Screen 12 Line (20,20)-(620,460),1,b,f ugh.... what a pain....

Reply: (edit)I have done this already... and in one line of code. Its a bit complex and the algorithm is hard to follow... but basically, it builds the OS emulator by itself and learns through trial and error. Its one bad ass Qbasic program with a sweet Self-learning artificial intelligence backbone, took me a while to develop. I will send it to your email tonight... Pardon me, now that I got the sarcasm out of the way... Let me be honest... 1) Why would you want to write it in Qbasic? 2) All I really heard from your request is "write me a program and do it this way"... which immediately painted you for mockery. 3) Do you honestly expect to write a Qbasic program to run faster and better than XP...? 4) I am interested to see what you have achieved on this so far... 5) I have a line to add to your code, once you actually attempt this yourself... "Let lloyd33 = Crazy" Infinite Recursion

Reply: (edit)LOL - I figured the 'running it on a calculator' part would have gave it away, but I guess some people are a little slow. Just kidding. Anyway, in all seriousness, I have seen a few Windows like programs written in QBASIC, but they look a lot more like Win 3.1 than XP. Not really worth wasting your time on if you ask me, but I guess nobody did. I will, however, add the line: Let lloyd33 = Crazy to my next program, although I'm pretty sure it will only return a zero as the variable. Hmmm.... was that a hidden message, Infinite Recursion?
