Can anyone help with a solution to my problem? I need a method (or utility) to place the output from a NT command line utility into memory as an alternative to piping to a text file, so that I can run multiple findstrings etc faster??

Have you thought about creating a virtual/ram drive within memory and then piping the output to a file within that ram drive?
