I would like to make my own OS but I don't know where to start.
I just want it to boot up into a simple GUI with a mouse.
No accounts, no login box,etc
I know what I have to do first is make a boot loader so that the boot loader loads my OS and I found a tutorial on the net "Hello World!" but what they tell you makes no sense
or its one of those tutorials that just gives you the code and tells you to take it from there.
I know that the boot loader is in ASM.
I looked for a good ASM tutorial so I can make my own Boot loader but I can't find one.
In one of the tutorials it teels you that you need NASM to output the ASM wich I did and that you need to use debug to write 100 0 0 1 to make it bootable but every time I want to update it or make a new one I have to reformat the Floppy disk. I does work if you start the PC and it will boot it but windows won't read it.
Can somone please point me in the right direction?
I have alot of free time on my nads and I'm in no hurry.
I don't mine id it takes like 4 or more years to make one.
Thanks everyone
PhantomSonic-We are all born with a destiny. Some of us know it and some of us are still searching for it.

Have you considered linux?
The os 's are open source so you can download the code.....make changes and see the results.
Just a thought....
Bet someone in the linux forum has a good getting started answer.
W.L.
