Comment:
My company is sending me to training in SQR because they have a policy that everyone gets the same training. I'm a C++ programmer/web developer/Lotus Notes developer. I think this training will be a waste of time and money--I heard that SQR is based on COBOL, which I've never used and doesn't seem to be that widely used. Will SQR be good on a resume, i.e. should I go all out to learn it or just try to coast through the class and spend my homework time on other things?

SQR is a programming language designed for database access and reporting, where embedded SQL is a natural part of its syntax. I would say it's useful to know even if you don't use it. You can become a better programmer in any language by learning techniques used in other languages.
