How to check if url exists

Specs: Windows
Trying to create an update script and when you call it, it check to see if update is available and then downloads it
I have a command-line exe to download the file - URL2FILE
But I need to know how to check if the update exists first
Any help would be great

I would suggest trying the "File Downloader" cmd line tool at

Using this in conjunction with the /update switch should force your script to only download if a newer version of the file you're referencing exists.
