Just wondering how(if) i would go about this, in the command line with java (no GUI)

I want it to print out "please enter the date : dd-mm-yyyy" then allow the user to input the date over the letters dd-mm-yyyy.
so when they enter the day its would be 10-mm-yyyy,

sorry if im making no sence but i was just wondering how it could be done :D
