I just got back from vacation not to long ago then had to go out of town on business shortly after that.
Now that I am finally have a chance to look at these forums, I have noticed a massive amount of please for homework assistance.
I would like to save everyone a fair amount of time and just elablorate on a few things about homework assistance...
I, nor most people in here, will not help you when the following occurs:
#1) You send out a plea for help, but only submit the assignment specs or list of questions to be answered.
#2) You demand the code in its entirety to be emailed to you or want it by a certain time.
#3) You show no evidence of trying to resolve the problem at hand yourself.
#4) You do not list specifically where you are having difficulty, you just throw the assignment up and say "help me".
-Basically, help yourself and we more likely will help you. We will do more damage in the long run by doing your assignment for you than if you didn't do it at all and got a zero. For instance, who would want to work with someone in a development team that utlimately "cheated" their way through school, furthermore, what good will you be to your employer if you do not have the ability to resolve problems that you claim are "easy" and "simple".
Base of the matter is, submit the core code / algorithm where you are having difficulty. Show me and others what you have done to help yourself resolve the problem. Don't just send the specs and demand the code to be emailed, these type of requests will, for the most part, be ignored.
Anyone else's opinion on this matter is welcomed.

ps: did school start back up or something?

i agree with Infinite Recursion, though i doubt this will start most of the homework cheaters from posting. maybe Justin could make some type of check box in the sign up that asks "did you do your homework yet?" lol or something like that. oh well. i guess we still get to mess with some of the homework people, although it does get old...well thats all i have to say on this...for now.
eaw8806

Nice points IR.
wz - not trying to be mean but are you lonely or something?? You wanted to talk to me offline yesterday about my opinion. Maybe IR will be willing, but my thought yesterday was that if you wanted to continue the discussion, there was no reason that it couldn't be done here.

IR - do you and SN have something cooking?? I just realized that you both disappear for a while and reappeared on the same day. You guys weren't off learning how to build exploding cell phones or anything like that, were you?? ;)

Might be adding a message with bold type would help: "Don't post homework questions withour trying them yourself first, or you'll be bombage by the answerers."
(Well, can't remember how to spell the word.)

wz886: If you want to talk to me about my opinion, talk here...
-----
eaw8806: nah, it want stop the beggers from posting... but it will be intereting to strip mine their posts and poke fun.
"some type of check box in the sign up that asks 'did you do your homework yet?'"
That's funny, although a good idea... or a "No posting homework assignments" notice... anything is better than nothing really. lol-----
Don: I personally think wz886 wants to test some type of malicous program in the realm of instant messengers; otherwise, why couldn't he/she post their opinion here?
Nah, wasn't off learning to build exploding cell phones. Osama and I didn't get along when I made the "rm -rf /bin/laden" joke. lol
I was actually in the Ozark Mountains trying to relax a bit. Although, funny that you mention the exploding cell phone, I was in the dr's office the other day and this kid had a cell phone playing a game and didn't bother muting the damn thing... the people in the waiting room were all sick and here is this kid and his mother who had no respect for others. My gf wanted to know if it was possible for me to write a cell phone virus to hunt him down... lol Being the kind people we are, we didn't directly say "Turn that damn thing off", we spoke amongst ourselves of inconsiderate people and bad parenting to where it was audible..... to no avail. :( lol
Infinite Recursion

Am I rude: I must have missed your post, or we were replying at the same time. I agree with you, some form of notice is needed. Or we all need to get together to find new ways to "attack" them.. lol
Infinite Recursion

The Ozark moutains are nice:) I've had that same problem at the doctors office. feeling like crap with a headache and some brat's sitting there playing on a cell phone...
Haha, I'm thinking we should spam their emails with some type of rectum cleansing product or something like that. jsut put the subject as "your code"
-Micah

Micah - The Ozarks are definitely nice. I spent most of my time in the Richland Creek Wilderness area...
Yeah, that would be one thing to do, we could also "answer" their inquiries but be no where near correct in our response.
Perhaps have a format function written in assembly and declare it to be the "important function" that doesn't need to be altered. :)-----
W886 - If you have questions, concerns, or a rant (like mine)... Feel free to post it, if related, to this thread or create a new one. I do not have AIM or MSN, even if I did, I would not convey the screen names at this point for obvious reasons.
Infinite Recursion

IR:
First thing's first. Welcome back! What part of the shadows were you lurking in? Haha. Anyway on to the subject...
The funny thing is, is that I've never posted a homework question here (I don't think). I'm quite new to programming, only about a year or two. But I've developed quite a knack for it and I'm still trying to learn as much as I can when I'm not slacking 8)
I found that it was much more interesting and challenging to try and figure out code on my own. If not, then I'd email or go see the prof about it. I mean after all, there is a reason why you're paying profs a crapload of money.
There is also a reason why they made you buy that low-tech, humongous slab of thinly sliced paper with ink called a 'textbook'. It's up to the student to make the most of it and to extract as much knowledge as they can from it. I mean what it all comes down to is what the student will make out of their given resources.
What I've found are these two things; people are either scared of rejection by fear of asking a stupid question to their prof, or that they're just totally anti-social. What I know for a fact, by experience of completing projects is that team work and social skills are of the utmost importance.
In my opinion, without these I'm pretty sure that you're damn near dead when you get out into the real world. I mean shyness is not really a hard thing to get over. I was once shy in my earlier days, but I've gotten over that which has helped me a lot.
Now I'm not saying that you can learn everything from the text or through lectures and indeed not everyone learns the same. But! We all need to know how to communicate with other people, because I found that some people catch on in some sections that others don't. In which case, it is important to get out there and talk your head off.
I'll be quite honest, dynamic memory management implementing data structures in C++ wasn't my piece of pie late last semester. Talking to others in my CS group helped me to understand even more than I had already did. Needless to say, you need to broaden your horizon and look to other options to learn better.
Coming to this forum and expecting a huge plunk of code already debugged, compiled and done for you is absurd. Although I do see some people getting suckered into figuring it out for them. Of course I wouldn't mind doing it for the absolutely low retail price of only 10 easy payments of $999.99 j/k.
Well, just my two cents. Maybe I gave a little more, but o well.
- Rolos

Hello,
I'm not going to put up a bold thing about homework. It would be too confusing. Like you said, someone can ask about a specific problem on his or her homework, just not how to do the whole thing. I have a much better solution, if a person just posts a question like "do this assignment" or something like that, report it offensive and I'll remove it.
Justin

I agree with IR about the homework thing. And I DO feel that way. Whenever I see a post that is clearly just the specs for a program or assignment, I usually say something derogatory about the poster out loud (of course no one hears me but me lol) and then I move on.
Anyone worth the salt they were oozed from needs to at least attempt the programming project first. I mean, why did you take that course if you don't know the first thing (if the assignment is so over your head)? And who is the idiot teaching the course if they never taught anything (if they are giving assignments to people that haven't even learned which book to read)?
My 1.5 cents.
Good day

Unfortunately, my vacation wasn't nearly as fun as IR's. I went to my wife's family reunion in Utah...At times I felt like developing an exploding cellphone just to use it on myself...
Unlike Rolos, I have posted my homework here (my first post in fact), but I worked on it for days on end before I got that desperate. I didn't get an answer...I'd be interested if anybody can get it. What do these 11 lines of code do?
Didn't there used to be an advertisement here on computing.net that was for people who wanted to pay somebody to do their programming assignment?
This WZ886 guy is a bit of an enigma...He's asked 3 questions on the same problem trying to win some kind of game, and seems to be into IM.
Ideally, the thing to do with the homework beggars would be to find out where they go to school and contact their teachers...I have no qualms with being a tattletale in the adult world.
In the absence of that possibility, I truly do enjoy the mocking. Micah's 6 programming languages in one was classic as well.
-SN

Rolos: Ty, good to be back. I've been lurking in the caverns in the Ozark National Forest :)I agree with you, teamwork and communication is the key to most any project. It does take a while for computer people to become socialites... I was rather reclusive myself during the beginning years. Talking to others, especially in the same field, will help ease the learning process... yet asking for someone to do your work for you is not a way to learn at all. I will do the work these people are requesting for my low price of only 100 payments of 9.99 :) [see if they figure that one out]. lol
Justin: I suppose, your solution is the most feasible way to go. Because it doesn't really
involve site modifications, just utilization of the built-in thread removal feature. I just hope the fellow posters get to the trigger before I see it ;) I just found the influx of homework related questions rather odd...Chi Happens: It would be a good idea if they are told the title of the textbook, although, with some of these people I don't even think they will read it anyway. The question is, what school / university are they attending and is the information technology field their major, an emphasis, a minor, or just something that they wanted to try... (maybe they are in HS, but even still... wouldn't their requests be considered cheating?) I agree with you, if they pursue the course... they should have a general understanding to which they would not be blown over by an assigment that they deem "simple" or "easy".
SN: My vacation wasn't all too fun. I hiked in mountains terrain for about 19 miles before I realized we went the wrong way. lol Not to mention, I will never go on this type of trek in the middle of July, the heat. Ahhhh! I probably would have attempted to ask a hw related question here myself, although, I came across this forum
after I graduated college :( Normally, went to the professor for assistance with something I couldn't figure out... afterall, what are we paying them for! lol. I never saw the advertisement about the homework consultant... but I was a little late on getting here too. WZ886, is quite the mystery... I'll leave it at that. I did like Micah's 6 Programming Languages into one. I think we should do more along those lines... lol.Infinite Recursion

lol IR, your price is 10 times less than Rolos! i'll take it..here's my simple, easi assignment:
1. buy a cell phone
2. write a virus to make them explode
3. send it to the Ozark Mountains.plz email this to lazy@aol.com
lol
yea WZ886 is kinda strange...if he wants to talk to the "experts", he shouldnt post the same thing 3 or 4 times, cause its just wasting everyones time. i guess i wouldnt mind so much, if his question wasnt about hacking click-to-pay or site hits or whatever. although maybe he'll get over it, and come to the "good side" lol. i know i did...mostly...lol.
anyways, is this horse dead yet? can we still keep hitting it? we all seem to agree on the same thing here, hw posters are lazy/stupid/should do their own work, and WZ886 shouldnt tripple post. lol.
my 3.141592654 cents
eaw8806

I suppose the horse is dead :)
eaw8806 summed it up for us... lolI like Mathematics... they have a lot of magic numbers, my CALIII professor always said just "take it as it is" do not try to "prove the process".
Poor horsey... *wack*
Infinite Recursion

I think the horse could be beaten a few more times. Not to say that there are actually any pieces of the horse left to be beaten. But this was a good entry, I just hope the people who post homework expecting us to do it actually read it.
I hope this post got the point across as well. As for my homework service price, if you act now I'll knock off 2, yes 2!!! low payments of $999.99. That's a price drop of almost $2,000 and just think of how much you'll be saving by acting now. 8)
Anyway I'll finish up and give it a swift kick in the balls once more before Justin decides to banish me from this forum forever.
- Rolos

I hope the homework posters read it to, although unlikely. If all else fails, we can cut and paste the URL as their answer :)
*rips the ears of the horsey head*
Infinite Recursion

yea, on any hw posts, just have everyone respond with "remeber 7407!" lol speaking of confusing/harrasing people, whatever happened to "sam", the really high iq kid, that wanted to learn programing? lol. i guess i'll head on over to that, and see if anythings happened. lol
and hey, *THUD* why would Justin *CRACK* want to take *BAM* this thread off? *CRUNCH*
lol...ahhhh whats that? oh right, WAS a horse...my sqr(-1) cents...figure that one out...lol
