Get a COM reference to work in Prod - VB 2005

April 4, 2011 at 13:00:16
Specs: Windows XP
Just moved an app. from vb 6.0 to VB.Net 2005 and it runs ok on my computer but when other users try to run the .exe they get the error "Cannot create ActiveX component"

Given that this is my 1st VB.Net app. with a "Com" object going to multiple users, what steps do i need to take to make this work? Appreciate any help, if you know the problem please provide steps... for a newb .net developer

Here's the trouble dll (think):

the code fails here somewhere:
Sys = CreateObject("EXTRA.System")
If Sys Is Nothing Then
MsgBox("Unable to create system object", , "Error")
End If
objSessions = Sys.Sessions

sCurrentSession = "C:\Program Files\Attachmate\EXTRA!\Sessions\sessions\105.edp"

' connect with selected session
ExtraSession = objSessions.Open(sCurrentSession) 'it's opened here
If ExtraSession Is Nothing Then
MsgBox("Connect Session Failed", , "Error")
InitializeExtraNew = False
InitializeExtraNew = True
' get session screen object
Screen = ExtraSession.Screen
OIA_Area = Screen.OIA
' display screen when connected
WaitConnect(3000, 30000)
End If

This is a very good artical for those have issues with COM components:

It does not solve the issue for the "Extra" COM component
