I've run into the "error reading fixed disk" problem and I need help please. I originally had Windows XP on my system and I formatted my pc before partioning the c: drive. Now when I try to run Fdisk in DOS it gives me the error message. I ran a program called clean.exe which is supposed to wipeout the hard drive but still I can't partion the c: drive. When I try to use the Windows XP installation disk, it tells me that my c: drive is unpartioned and it won't allow me to partion it. Is there a way I can get around this using DOS? How can I get past this "ERROR READING FIXED DISK" problem...PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try Googling 'Format NTFS drive' this should give some results regarding FAT32 and NTFS drives.

As far as the partition is concerned, there is no version of DOS that recognizes NTFS file systems and this may be the reason for your error message.

Try going into fdisk, pick the option to select the correct HDD (if you have more than one drive), select 'delete' then 'delete a non-dos partition'.
