echoing on top of a screen in dos

Specs: MSDOS
Is it possible to echo a batch on top of the screen in dos without clearing the screen or moving the previous screen? I was just playing with the idea, but I think it'd be a neat effect.

Actually, I doubt that exists. BUT, does anyone know how many characters wide the old dos screens were?

There was a way to do what you want with the video using the DOS ANSI video driver and Esc codes. How to actually do it is now lost in the depths of antiquity.

The standard MS-DOS screen using the inbuilt BIOS video was 80 characters wide. However that could be made more or less depending on the video drivers in use. MS-DOS applications either used the standard BIOS video or they used drivers specifically for that application.
