1. This is the first time that I have tried to use this site, but here ges..

2. I don't remember that "visual" ever appeared when using the basic that am referring to. Isn't Visual basic a totally different animal than basic basic, qbasic or another kind? Wasn't it for one of the "newer" programming techniques like top down, structured, or some other variety?

I downloaded something called QB64 and it seems to like the syntax that I submitted to it but seems to be buggy!, but is lacking many of the features that I used to have - like step execution, a supply of examples, help, etc.

I am in search of that old basic and its public name for searches. I've tried many variations of names and tlmost all seemingly relative hits are regarding the virtual basic to which you alluded.

Perhaps you mean GWBasic. Visual Basic is much better as it allows you to do so much more, including Windows programming.

Lik I said, I don't know how to use this site!
I discovered in my notes a reference to QB45 and used that for a search term and found many hits. I am really looking for coding examples - a program reference document but so far have not been successful. Will search more and let you know when additional help is needed. Thanks for your response.
