Could someone explain the difference between VBS and VBE files ?

I created a logon script that simply creates a desktop shortcut when a certain user logs on, but if I name the script shortcut.VBS it doesn't work on my Windows 2000 PC. If I change the name to shortcut.VBE it works without issue.

Can anyone suggest why this might be ? All my other vbs scripts seem to work fine on the Win 2000 PC.

thanks in advance for any help

The difference is that the VBE file is encoded and the VBS file is not. VBE files are just VBScripts that are encoded.
