I am sorry if I am posting in the wrong place. I would like info on what connections I would need to purchase so I can copy my old Lp albums on to a cd-r. I would also like instruction on how to perform this task

You need a plug with a stereo 8mm jack on both ends (like the one on headphones). Get it from your local radio shack. Plug one into the output of your record player, the other into the "line in" jack of your sound card (in the computer.) Change the recording input by going to start-programs-accessories-entertainment-volume control. Go to options-properties-click recording, click OK, then select the LINE IN input.

Then use any sound recording program to capture the input (lots available on download.com), and use your regular cd burning software to put it on to a CD. Your burning software may come with a sound recording program to do this.

For future reference, this was a question for the windows 98 forum.

Good luck,
-SN

G'day,

SN basically summed it up, but there is one thing to bear in mind. Depending on your music source, the disc output may or may not be equalised. Most record decks on their own do not implement the RIAA equalisation required for maganetic pick-ups. So, if you are just inputing straight from a record deck only you might not get the results you expect. Also, the signal level might be too low so your signal-to-noise ratio might not be very good.
This advice will not count, or course, if the software takes care of it, but I don't know if that is the case.
best regards,
Elric
