Being old and computer basic I would like to know the following:-
I have a small, simple dos program which compares up to 20 different sets of ratings and comes up with a new mathmatical rating, keeping the correlation between each set the same.
I would like to know the following:-
1 - is it possible to convert a dos program to a windows based program?
2 - Where would I be able to get it done?
3 - Would it be expensive?
The reason I want to change it, is to be able to input data a lot more quickly and effeciently.
Thank you in anticipation of your help.

No, you cannot convert a DOS programme to run under Windows. It is not possible. The programme would have to be re-written and compiled in a Windows environment.

While this dosn't answer your question, many DOS programs will run in a DOS Window.
If you have the original source code of the program, you mmay be able to convert to a Windows equivalent without too much problem.
The comment of inputing data more quicky suggests that the is a structural problem with the software. With most programs the human operator is the slowest link in the process.

Thank you for your replies, I hoped for different but expected this answer.
I do not have the original source code. The program was passed on to me after being downloaded from the net.
Yes I am slow at inputting the data, which can be upwards of 1000 2 or 3 digit figures per day. That is why I hoped to speed the input up. I thought I could copy and paste each list into a spreadsheet and it could then do it's calculation. 5 minutes instead of an hour and a half. Life is never simple

Just because you can't do what you wanted doesn't mean you're stuck with your lame program. It sounds to me that the program simply takes inputs, and spits out outputs based on some mathematical formula. Given the steps the program does to perform the calculations, I would imagine even an incompetent VB programmer like myself could write an MS Excel plugin in a few hours that would do it for you.
If you can give as much information on the program as possible (name, inputs, outputs, steps you take to make the calculations, etc.), we can probably find another solution to your problem.
Feel free to e-mail me if the explanation is too long to be manageable in the forum setting.

SN, I have been in hospital for a couple of weeks and I did e-mail you before going in. Whether you received it I do not know as I have not had a reply.
All I know about the program is that I input normally 3 rows of figures and it formulates a new set of figures. How it does it I do not know.
Being a small program it may be best for me to send it to you
Regards, Steve.

Swebby-
Sorry to hear about your hospital stay. I did get your e-mail, but it totally slipped my mind to get back to you. Thanks for the reminder. Send me the program and I'll see if I can duplicate it in excel or something else.If the formula is very complex, it may be very difficult to emulate. If you could send me some sample data as well, It might speed things up.
