Hy everyone.

Is it possible to control a hard drive's motor speed and heads movements with a software?

Thanks in advance.

If there is, it's dependent on the manufacturer. probably the make and model as well. The only companies I know of that worries about such granular control either makes HDDs, or make SpinRite. Maybe someone in GRC's newsgroups could help you; we probably can't.

I would expect the answer to be no. Both motor speed and head movement are controlled by the drive electronics with no involvement of the system software. The system does not interact with the drive at that level of detail. If this were possible at all, and I very much doubt it, the details would be hardware dependent and not available to the public.
