CMD output to TXT file

Specs: Windows 7 Pro, I7 960 3.2, 6GB ddr3 16000-2000Mhz
IM in college, taking a LAN class ran into a problem.
I ran CMD/ tracert need output to .txt file. because cant see all IP addresses. need to use the file for a later date.
I tried the:
PING -n 1 > FileName
cmd /k "PING -n 1 > FileName"
I get error.
"Ping request could not find host Please check the name and try again."

just use ping -n ipaddress >filename.txt it will work.
