Hi,
Can anyone tells me how to capture the telephone number where a file is coming from.
let me be more specific.
Suppose that my friend downloads a file to me. I want to be able to get the telephone number of my friend from the file tha he downloaded to me using VB. is that possible?
anything is appreciated.

Maybe.
IF his modem called your modem directly, and IF your modem has CallerID functionality, and IF you have a program to read that CallerID functionality, and IF your phone line has CallerID enabled, and IF your friend's phone number is not blocked, you might be able to get the phone number from Caller ID.
Not from the file, though. Phone numbers are not automatically embedded in transferred files.

Hi Jim,
Jim,I have caller idea enable by the phone company, My modem has caller idea funtionality. My friend's phone number is not blocked. Can you explain a bit about his modem call my modem directly and give an example. Sorry jim, I'm new to all this stuffs.
Everything you said is right Jim. I thank you for helping me.
What I need is the VB code to Capture the telephone number, assuming that everything you mentioned is exact.
Please help.

Hi BABA,
What we need to know is, HOW does your friend connect to your computer? Are we talking about a direct connection only between the 2 computers OR are you using something like Kazaa or Instant messenger with file downloadin capability or what is it?
Then we can go from there.

Hi,
Jim,
Like I told you. Assuming that we are using direct connection with hyperterminal, for instance.
What VB Code would be able to get his phone number?
anything will do Jim!

my modem came with software...it'll answer incoming calls, and it logs the phone numbers and lets you do various things. you can even set up a sort of BBS. That'll be the easiest way. I don't know VB, so I don't know how to program it to keep cycling and checking the modem for an incoming call...
