can't install a new XP OS.....

Specs: Windows XP, 64 MB DDR SDRAM
i'm trying to help a friend here....he has a HP pavilion 753n. some idiot erased the original xp OS and installed vista....the wireless network interface (NIC) card wasn't compatible with vista....soooo, i'm tryng to re-install xp..... i have the xp sp2 iso file but i can't get the comp. to boot from the cd drive....argh.... i've accessed the bios menu and selected boot from cd-rom but it just goes straight to a screen that wants me to pick the OS system to start with..(there are 2 messed up versions of xp that another idiot tried to install and neither seem to work with the video card, i can't select more than 4-bit color) i need to delete the other operating systems that other idiots tried to put on? if do i do it properly?....please send responses to thanks!!!!

I wonder who this other idiot was? Seems that everything is always some other idiots fault.

How did you create the CD with the ISO file. Did you just copy the ISO file to the CD and hope it would work. An ISO file is an image of a CD and needs to burnt to the CD with software that understands ISO files.

The fact that you have an ISO file suggests that it is a pirate copy and may not work at all with you computer. You need the original restore disk that came with the laptop.

... maybe the "idiot" did'nt zap the recovery partition !!

... access the recovery partition on a HP desktop computer tap F10 @ boot-up. (F11 on hp notebook) If the recovery partition is intact it should load.

to!!!!! its not a laptop and its not my comp.... if i had the original boot up disk do you think i would be even on here?

will try the F10 thing next i'm over there... any other suggestions???? i know how to put an iso file on a disc properly so that is not the problem......thanks
