Solved Can't Activate Batch File

April 15, 2011 at 10:30:39
Specs: Windows XP
I wrote a batch script using notepad. I saved it as .bat and tried to run it in the Command Prompt. I came up with, "HW.bat is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Any idea what's going on?

Where did you save your script?

If the script is not stored in a directory listed in the PATH system variable to run it you need to type its full path or make its directory the current one by the CD command.

You probs. dont have any commands in it.

Edit your batch and put this code in it, save and run it.

@echo off
echo Hello! Can you see this?

Nothing to do with whether there are any commands in it or not. Even if you saved a blank .bat file it would prevent the OPs error providing the command interpreter could find it. As the command interpreter cannot find the file, it matters not one jot what is in it.

And thats the problem, as pointed out by IVO, the command interpreter cannot find the file in order to run it. It need to be in a folder that is in the path command or CD to the folder it is in or tytpe full pathname of the file at the command prompt.
