I have a couple of Yahoo email accounts. Since Thurs evening, I have not been able to access either one. Something happened and I can’t figure out what. I cannot access my email at all. After entering my username and password, and clicking on sign in, there seems to be a short communication between my computer and Yahoo and it says it is opening the page but then all communication from the yahoo servers seem to just stop and the browser just continues to idle endlessly. This is with both accounts. Yet, if I enter an invalid password, it immediately responds with an invalid password message. I am
noticing no other problems with my system or in accessing any other web pages. I have scanned for a virus with the anti-virus program (AVG) I have always been using and it comes up clean. The database is up to date. Oddly, I can't even set up new accounts as I get the same reaction by clicking on the “Sign Up” button—endless idle. At first I thought it was a problem with the yahoo servers but I tried from computers at the local library and there was no problem accessing my accounts at all. It appears to be something on my computer. I contacted Yahoo and they cannot see any problem on their end. They suggested I clean the cache and delete all cookies. (I am using IE 5.5 browser and have made no changes in it prior to this problem.) I cleaned the cache and moved the internet cookies to a different folder elsewhere. None of this helped. I’m out of ideas about what could be causing this? Anyone have any clue what the conflict could be. I would greatly appreciate any help with this. Thanks in advance.

This is a longshot, but maybe some yahoo.com pages are being blocked by your computer. Do a search for your Hosts file and open it with notepad. Any listings that are prefixed with 127.0.0.1 are blocked. Look through these listings for anything with yahoo.com in it. If you find any, make a copy of the hosts file with a name you'll remember, then delete the entries containing yahoo.com. Save and close the Hosts file. Try to sign in to your yahoo accaount. If this doesn't work, use the copy you made of the Hosts file to restore the file.
Hope this helps.

Sci-Guy,
Thanks for your suggestion. I did a search for any files containing text with that IP # series and one file called hosts came up that said it was just a sample host file and didn't have much in it except a couple of samples and near that number, it just said "local host" -- nothing about Yahoo anywhere. So still needing answer.

I did say it was a longshot. The reference to local host does belong there. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Sorry, but the reason I have posted here is because I don't think it is an operating system problem and no one there had any ideas. I thought someone who understood code might have some insights into the problem as to what sort of file on my computer could be blocking access to my email accounts.

Hi all,
I pray somebody helps with this problem. I am having the similar problem. I can get yahoo on every PC in my office except mine. Other can also get their yahoo account from mine. I have tried upgrading from IE 5.5 to 6. It fixed the problem briefly. On rebooting my machine, I start experiencing same problem.
