Comment:

is there a possibility to make sure that a certain registry key will not be changed permanently by other programs?
it doesn't neet to be completely "locked"
but it should be back at it's "default" setting each time i start windows

anything besides the "autostart" keys?

Thanks for any ideas or hints : )

Well, you can change a key's permissions, but an administrator can open the key up if he wants to.

ok, then instead of locking it, it might be better to look for a way it is restored each time windows starts up.

the only thing i know about that could accomplish such a thing is the "run" key.
but I do not know how such a key has to look like (tried something similar a few days ago and couldn't get it right)

does anyone know about a way to accomplish this?
i mean making sure a key is set everytime windows starts up?
and in case the run key is the only possibility - how does such a key look like for example? (a key that changes another keys value)
