could anyone tell me what programme/language should i use to build a tutorial for a software. should it be macromedia authorware or flash.

For a more cost-effective approach, I'd suggest that you get Dreamweaver, and install the Coursebuilder extentsion. Check it out here: http://www.macromedia.com/resources/elearning/extensions/dw_ud/coursebuilder/
Authorware is kind of overkill if you only have one project. Flash is useful but it is harder to use.
