Hey.
My friend has asked me to write a batch file that will trace when his girlfriend comes online because she has gone over-seas.
Getting her IP adress was not a problem, as she is well aware of what he wants to do - Infact, it was her idea.
I was thinking of something along the lines of:
:LEW
Testing Connection
PING (IP ADDRESS) >nul
IF "%ERRORLEVEL%"=="1" GOTO ERROR
CLS
ECHO.She Is Online
PING 127.0.0.1 >nul
GOTO LEW
:ERROR
ECHO.She Is Offline
PING 127.0.0.1 >nul
GOTO LEW
But I am worried about the amount of internet usage that would use.
Putting a file on her computer that notifys a server of her login is not an option sadly, so i need it to work off his computer.
Im not 100% sure on other countries but his ISP (Optusnet) Is limited to 400MB (Sucks, I know) And i am worried about the affect a repeditive pinging would have on his small amount of internet usage.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
I am going to make when she logs on and off echo to a file, but i can do that myself so its not a problem.
If anybody could please post suggestion.
Even a script in another language would be good. Maybe something in VB6 that logs when she logs on and off to a file and a msgbox that pops up to the screen saying :Your Girlfriend Has Logged On.
Thanks.LEoH

I'm intrigued that he knows her IP. Why not just get skype/?

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.M2

To be honest - I'm not sure. I'm just relaying what he said to me.
If it is pinging at a rate of 32bp3s then would it not use around 30mb of internet in a month?LEoH
