Batch File Attribute Check

Specs: Windows Vista

I forgot what it's called when you use the 'set' function in order to reference it later, but i need a way to check whether one of these existed.

In my batch file, it uses the set function to record the user input, and the output.
At any time, the user can view the record so far.
I need a way to check whether it exists, so that the batch file knows when stop.

For example, the input's are saved as 'input001', 'input002', 'input003', ect.
however, input004 may not have been recorded yet, so i need a command (preferably an IF function) to check.

Probably very simple to do, but i can't figure it out.

Anyone know??
