I am tired of people saying that its impossible to make a batch file with a password because people can just see it. Has anyone thought about making a zip folder, putting the batch file in it ans password protecting it with a 20 digit password? i may be a n00b but i know that it WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi hatlad,

I am glad you achieved a smart solution for a problem so many people do want to solve. A significant step in scripting.

However science (and software is part of science, almost computer science) wants facts not just statements since Galileo's experiments.

So untill you give a detailed description of the method you worked put with a related example, so everyone can repeat your process, what you claim is much like the "Cold Fusion", midway between science and magic.

Here I am waiting to learn.

Ciao

But you said how it would have worked, create a batch file and put it in a password protected Zipfile ..

.. it's nice theory, but you don't have a batchfile, you have a zipfile. And Zips are not executable.

What I did once in the past:
Create a batch file, and find an utility on the Net that converts that batchfile to .COM or .exe

Depending on the conversion tool, the password may still be readable ... but the file now is binary, at least. No 100% perfect solution, but better than leaving it in the batchfile, yes.

After the conversion ... delete the batchfile.

;)

Hi there.

There's more than 2 people wanting scrambled batchfiles, but also scrambled configuration files ...

Someway or another, none too many OS provide such things ...

hatlad : "bat2com" or "bat2exe" in Google

"bat2com" or "bat2exe"

Both pretty useless.

::== some.bat
pkzip -spass my the.bat
del the.bat
zip2exe my
del my.zip
my -spass
