Hello there, im new to this website and maybe my question is being asked in the wrong section, but I was hoping someone could help me.
When I open IE explorer i frequently dont get instant access to my home page, instead I have to go to Start/Run and type "winipcfg" and then press renew IP address to get my PC to recognise my IP number. Only then can I get on line.
I was wondering if there was some line of code I could put in my autoexec.bat file, to get my PC to automatically configure and renew my IP address on startup, so I didn't have to continue doing that manually.
all help and suggestions gratfully appreciated.
Thank you

There isn't enough info to guess the core problem, but I suspect there are other ways to reliably detect and connect. If you could give the Windows version, how you connect (NIC, modem...), whether your home page is on a LAN or web, etc., there might be a better solution someone could offer.
Nevertheless, regarding how to automatically fire winipcfg, autoexec.bat might not be the best place to do it. That file is run very early in the bootup process, and you're better off doing this as late as possible, especially since networking is inherently slow to init. Putting a shortcut in your Startup folder, under the Windows Program directory tree, would be a good spot. You could just put your command to run winipcfg in the shortcut, or point it to your own .BAT file, and have that run winipcfg.
Cheers

Yes I guess I should have been a bit more specific about my system details, I was just trying to keep the question simple.
My OS is Windows 95 (Finnish Version)
I have an ADSL PCI card that connects me to the internet.
My home page is my Internet Service Providers page, which is Sonera Plaza (a Finnish ISP)
I can provide more system details if required.
Thanks for the advice about the startup folder under the Windows Program directory tree. That does sound like a much better idea and I think I will do that once I have figured out how to do that. (like I said I am still a bit of a novice).

I confess I've never used ADSL, only T-1 and modems, but I'm sure there are others that have that experience. However, the details you just posted have given me some ideas.
First, Win95 came out early in the networking game for Microsoft, and I'm not sure even the latest version of IE will make access easier. You might have to stick with running a shortcut.
To make such a shortcut, go into Windows Explorer, and navigate to "C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp". With the StartUp folder opened, right click in a blank area in the right pane (the file listing), and choose New>>Shortcut. This will open the Shortcut wizard. Enter the text "ipconfig /renew" in the textbox (without the quotes), click on next, and enter whatever name you want for the shortcut. click Finish, and you're done.
IPConfig.exe is the command-line version of WinIPCfg.exe, though you could run that too. If this doesn't work when automatically run on Windows startup, you can click on the shortcut at any time (from the Start menu), and your IP will be refreshed. That should be pretty easy.
If you still want to see if your ADSL problem can be resolved directly, I suggest you repost your problem, along with the details you gave, all over again. The reason is that many people don't bother looking at posts that have already been answered once or more. Try the "Networking" forum too, along with all the "Windows *" forums. ADSL is fairly common, so someone should know.
Best of Luck

thanks for the help JeffJ, I must admit if it was my pc that I was using I would have installed a later operating system that runs in English with IE6.
Unfortunately I am restricted as too what changes I can make to the software running on the system, so this shortcut sounds like the perfect solution for me.
I'll give it a try and post back how I got on, also I will post my query again on the forums you suggested to see if my ADSL problem can be resolved directly.
I understand that many people don't bother looking at posts that are further down the list but I guess that problem is kind of unavoidable with so many queries being posted, At least everyone gets a little help eh?
Thanks again
Olly
