Active Partitions

Is it possible to make a hard drive partition an active partition and copy the contents of a recovery CD/DVD to it and have it boot on start up? What I am looking to is have this boot from the hard drive rather than a CD/DVD so I can use Acronis true image software to restore the computer to a previous state, I think this would be a better idea than handing people recovery CD's/DVD’s that they may loose.

It wont work. It could be made to work but just copying the contents of the CD to a hard disk is not the way to do it.
The boot processes of a CD and a hard disk is completely different and trying to make a hard disk behave like a CD is fraught with problems.
The bast way to do it is to create the recovery data on a spare hardisk partition in the first place without going anywhere near a CD/DVD.

Thanks for the information :@)
I have decided to use Acronis True Image to make a hidden partition on a separate drive as this software provides me with the boot options I require and also allows me to save a complete disk image to the hidden partition, and so if I get failure I can just press F11 it works very well as I have now tried it on my virtual machine, I have also made an external bootable recovery disk encase of overall failure on both my drives.
