To be fair, PDFs probably make a lot more sense for user-upgradable products like the iPhone. I suspect an original iPhone 2G rev1.0 manual would be of very little use to that same phone running 3.0 firmware! I just upgraded an old circa-2003 hand-me-down Verizon Samsung i730 WinMo phone from the WM 2003 OS to WM5, and the button assignments no longer match the icons stamped into the buttons, and the old "power off" button (hold down the hang-up button for several seconds) now toggles flight mode on/off! I downloaded the new WM5 version of the manual from Verizon and was amused to find it includes a section devoted to rearrainging the button functions to the old assignments to match the printed icons! I still can't find a way to turn the blamed thing off though! (The "power" button puts it in standby like it always did, but there doesn't seem to be a way to actually power it down completely, short of removing the battery! The manual claims the power off function, which now triggers flight mode on/off, is still valid. It isn't! Fortunately, a third-party app I use offers a shutdown function, so I just use that when needed.) archived from misc.phone.mobile.iphone
