iPhone Video problem

Comment:

The problem is that I do not have any videos on my iPhone, but iTunes
says that I have 1.03 gigabytes of memory on the iPhone taken up by
video.

Syncing doesn't help. Is there any solution short of resetting the
thing and then syncing from scratch?

is that space really lost? or can you account for it as used up by apps
or data that any of the apps might have allocated?

some apps download a crapload of data once installed and maybe they did
something weird and the iphone thinks the data is video. sometimes i
see several gigs of space allocated to apps and the next day all that
space is 'other' with the apps at a more normal amount (<100 meg).

All I know is that the graph in iTunes says that it is video.

But this has been consistent for more than a month.

do you have any apps that might have a huge chunk of associated data?

for instance, there's an app that downloads all of wikipedia, taking up
2 gigs of space. that space shows up in 'other' but maybe if you have
an app that has a huge data cache, it shows up in video. that would be
a bug, but i can't think of anything else that might cause it.

there was the opposite bug with 2.0 firmware, where if you had songs it
might 'forget' they were there.

if you restore the device it will probably reset, but you do have 2 gig
free so it may not be worth the hassle just yet.

have you tried rebooting the phone?

Not that I know of.

> have you tried rebooting the phone?

You mean turning it off and then back on? That didn't help.

But I think I found out what the problem is. When I tapped the iPod
icon and then the Movies icon, the icon for the movie "Jumper" appeared
and then vanished; switching away from movies and then back to it shows
the "No Movies" screen.

So, somehow Jumper is on the iPhone, but inaccessible. It also does not
show in iTunes on my computer.

No. The few that I watch, I watch on my computer and do not sync them
with the iPhone.

Isn't there some demo videos that come in all iPhones? I've watched them
in the stores, so if you haven't found a way to delete them, that may be
what you're seeing, the demo crapware. It has to be stored there,
somewhere.

Also, Michelle, do you have any games installed with cutesy videos in them?
Those videos wouldn't show up on iTunes but the game software must store
them in the phone's memory to play them. They'd be hidden away from iTunes
syncing. Think about any games that "play" before they start or games that
have moving video in them while they're playing.

Do you download and sync video podcasts, maybe?

a full reboot, not a sleep/wake

did you load that movie at some point? if the iphone can't access it,
i'm not sure how it can be cleared other than a full restore (which
isn't as bad as it my sound).

I powered down (i.e., turned it off) and then turned it back on.

Yes, but I can't recall whether I bought it or rented it. I think that
I rented it. It's not on my computer.

by clicking "Restore" in iTunes, right? There is no rush, though; I
still have 2.02 gigs free.

I would do that, but it's not on my computer, and apparently not
available through the i Tunes store any more.

right, no rush until you need that space back. if you can manage until
3.0 comes out, wipe and restore the device then, which is probably what
will happen when you upgrade it.

Hello,

Maybe you can try to reload "Jumpie" on your iPhone, check if it is
accessible, and after unload it ?

Regards.
