i'm gonna set up an email account for my wife to use
on her iphone. Which one is the best for that?
free, most storage, easily integrated with iphone,
one that notifies her of new mail, etc.

the requirements are pretty simple, she would mostly want
to send and receive photos from friends.

cheers,
bob

Click Fetch New Data in the Settings, then turn Push notifications on.
The iPhone will go onto the network every 15, 30, or 60 minutes to get
new data. Then watch your battery drain. But it works with GMail.

Gmail is good but I don't know of any free service that notifies you of
new mail-- you always have to check. MobileMe will notify you, but of
course it's not free.

If anyone has suggestions regarding notifications, I'd love to hear
them. I don't see any option for this in Gmail.

Gotcha, so any email account can have this if you don't mind spending
some battery power on it.

My wife and I have been using gmail since it began, and have had it on
our iPhones since early on. It has yet to fail us.

yahoo mail will push, no need to poll every 15 min or whatever, and
it's free.

Gmail and Yahoo are pretty much indistinguishable as
far at the iPhone mail is concerned. Both are trivial to
set up and look the same from the iPhone.

Yahoo has "data push", which will automatically
push new mail to the phone. Gmail will fetch it at
intervals based on your settings.

A Google account can be integrated into more other
services (calendar, Picasa, groups, checkout,etc),
on and off the iPhone.

Ahhh ... the dumbass works for Google. Now that explains everything. The
idiot pushes completely false and misleading information about the iPhone to
try to make the worthless copycat Google phone look better. The only way

Good point. Though either way, he's an idiot.

Gmail is generally acknowledged to be the best email service anyone
can get, hands down!

It works perfectly with the iPhone. I have fifteen separate Gmail
accounts in addition to the normal variety from other services many
use. I also have AT&T and Charter email accounts which I simply would
never use on the iPhone.

Each Gmail account allows you at least 7GB of online storage, you do
the math for 15.

Gmail works across all platforms.

Gmail IDs work as Open Ids on the INTERNET now.

Gmail allows almost no SPAM to pass to you.

Gmail checks all attachments for Viruses and such before allowing you
to download them. This is nice if you are using a Mac or an iPhone
which is unaffected by that windows crap. You will not innocently pass
an infection on to a Microsoft windows platform which you can't get
yourself and would probably never even notice.

etc etc

I forgot to mention I also use Yahoo on the iPhone for some mail, also
a Yahoo account can serve as an Open Id.

I obviously do not like Yahoo as much as Google but Yahoo hase a few
nice features some may like. You will find most of the better old
Yahoo Groups have moved to Google Groups by now.

Google generally does everything better. They now have instant real
time push for RSS and Atom feeds if you can monitor using those. Look
on YouTube for demonstration posted last week - Google it ;>)
