Hi everyone,

I'm still under (jailbreaked) iPhone OS2.1 and have the latest version
of iTunes.
I'm both a Mac (Leo) and PC (XP) user and I regularly backup my
computers - most of the time I make a complete image backup (called
ghost for pc users) of my hard drives.

A few months ago I bought Band from the iPhone App store, which worked
perfectly.
Yet after an official upgrade of Band, this software became no longer
compatible with my iPhone, which I found very unfair and frustrating ! I
wrote to the company and complained about that. They didn't bother
replying...

So I decided to try restoring the app from an old backup dating back to
the period when I bought BAND. I thus erased the newly-updated app and
replaced it with the original version.

Guess what : Band is now back on my iPhone !

My advice is : make regular backups of your iTunes files ! Most of the
time a simple restoration of the faulty app should do the job...

Hope you'll find this useful.

Thierry

P.S. : By the way, I originally bought Band when I only had a PC and
therefore used a PC backup copy to restore the app onto my MacBook. As I
suspected, I encountered no compatibility issues !

no doubt they used some of the changes for audio apps in 2.2, which was
also a free upgrade. the error message would have said you needed to
upgrade.

better advice is update to the latest firmware, especially since it's
free and now that 3.0 is out, it won't be long until most apps require
that, let alone 2.2.

there shouldn't be any issues since the app is for the phone, not mac
or pc.

True, provided your iPhone isn't jailbroken and sim-unlocked... If it is
then you'd better think twice before updating your iPhone as soon as the
new firmware is out.

Mine is jailbroken and uses a third-party French network. It's also so
cool to customize your springboard and to run even more apps than what
Apple can offer : take the xGPS app for example, sooo flexible and
sooo... free ! I've also been able to take movies, copy/paste text and
send/receive MMS's long before OS3 was out - even though I find the App
Store much richer in terms of choice now for OS2.x than what it was back
two or three months ago.

So I won't rush for the next upgrade before a few weeks as long as I'm
happy with my current OS.

I totally agree with your point. But one might also have thought that
the PC and Mac versions of iTunes would each have adopted their own file
formats when saving their apps onto hard disk. But this fortunately is
not the case.
