So far, I have two paid-for sound amplifier hearing aid
applications, SpyApps Listen Up $2 and soundAMP $10. Listen Up
could use a better volume limiter. The squelch control does not
work and probably is not useful anyway. The most recent version of
Listen Up has very slight lag between the microphone and the
headphones, but the lag is much shorter than before the 3.0
compatible update. Just got soundAMP, it came with a lot of hype.
It has almost no lag. One obvious flaw with soundAMP is poor/weak
amplification. With the iPhone volume necessarily turned almost
all the way up for significant amplification, when using the
iPhone's built-in microphone, annoying pops are heard through the
headphones whenever the volume is adjusted (like when receiving a
phone call). soundAMP is overpriced. Compared to Listen Up, the
current version of soundAMP might be worth about the same $2
(definitely not worth $10).

soundAMP has been updated. They definitely increased/improved the
amplification. They changed the frequency filtering graphics, for the
worse IMO. For some strange reason, they flipped the GUI for use with
the iPhone's built-in microphone, permanently, not according to the
iPhone's orientation. Maybe they do not know how to program flipping
of the screen according to the iPhone's orientation. I like the very
simple GUI, but soundAMP has the feel of a program written by a
programmer who does not use it.
