The threat to your iPhone by hackers has been fixed already by iPhone
OS 3.0.1 released on the last day of July 2009.

If you haven;t already done so download and update your iPhone using
iTunes.

So the "hack", "story" and "required security fix download" was just a
means to disadvantage jailbreakers...

How AAPL... control freaks all the way.

I have both the 3G and the 3GS. I don't think: "The iPhone 3GS KICKS
some serious DONKEY!! It is much better than the 3G
was".

I don't find the 3GS to be noticeably faster than my 3G. Perhaps if I
played games on it I would notice a difference. The internet is no
faster because they both run on the 3G network so there is no speed
advantage for the 3GS. It is the same speed as 3G for loading pages
even with wifi.

I like the voice control feature (but Iphones should have had this
feature since the beginning). The camera takes better pictures but it
still is not that great. Video - have that with 3G using Cycorder and
it works pretty good.

The compass? Yeah we really need a compass! Most of the other features
come from FW 3.0 and are the same on the 3G.

So I am still deciding on whether to keep the 3GS or sell it. I really
don't think it is a huge upgrade over my trusty 3G. The voice control
is the only feature that I would miss. I don't really think that the
3GS is worth spending the extra cash for if you already have a 3G that
you are happy with. Just my opinion....yours may differ!

i don't know what you're doing but the overall speed difference is
staggering. apps open much faster and the entire device is much more
responsive. while the 3g network is the same, safari is faster so pages
do load quicker.

Don't quite understand that comment. I've had Iphones since they first
came out so I'm not a newb at this. Side by side comparison 3Gs and 3G
speeds are not a lot different. Have you actually sat down with both
and done an honest comparison or are you just getting carried away
with the hype?

My apps open fast on the 3g maybe a tad faster on the 3gs but a HUGE
difference...no.

Both devices side by side and I load the same pages from bookmarks on
both 3g and 3gs using wifi. I'm trying to touch the screen at exactly
the same time on both and 3GS is slightly faster but not a HUGE
amount. Yes there is some improvement but the title:
"The iPhone 3GS KICKS some serious DONKEY!!" is a totally exagerated.

Like I said earlier...If you have a 3G you are happy with then other
than Voice Control I personally don't think the upgrade to a 3GS is
worth the money. I'm really trying hard to like this 3GS but I can
honestly say that I will probably sell it as the 3G is very close in
terms of speed and usage.

I have to say, I have a 3G and I've tried the 3GS in the Apple store,
and the 3GS was considerably faster.

On the other hand, the 3GS compass in the store was just utterly
wrong. Like 90 degrees out. No idea why this was.

You do not know what you are talking about!

It is illegal for anyone to change the base band code of any US phone
per FCC regulation. Some hacks of the iPhone change the base band and
that is patently illegal. Those illegal changes have the potential of
wiping out the cellular network.

it's definitely legal to unlock a cellphone in the usa, and the unlock
does not modify the baseband, but rather it patches it on the fly.
furthermore, the cellular network is not at risk of being 'wiped out'
because someone used an iphone on tmobile instead of at&t. pure fud.

You swing the 3GS in an s or figure 8 pattern horizontally and the
compass will auto correct itself to its local environment.. That even
works while driving in a car after walking down the street.

Anyone who says the 3GS isn't substantially better than the 3G has not
a clue. Typical internet crap. Spend some time examining the issues
involved.

It is similar to the morons who claim the iPhone is crippled because
it doesn't multitask (it can). They do not understand what a true
multitasking OS is and why Apple was careful to limit the multitasking
features for a device with a tiny 3.5 inch screen.

The patented internal design of the iPhone is why no one else can hope
to match Apple's product and user experience. It is fascinating to see
the changes as engineers seek to improve the product in an
evolutionary way by tweaking the hardware and software. The is a NDA
but look for a major software upgrade for the 3GS.

Meanwhile real users buy the product much to the disappointment of
firms like HTC who have been shocked to see their sales of new
products based on Android and Windows Mobile sharply decline in the
world market since the release of the 3GS. Sprint for instance is
feeling the affect of current Sprint customers abandoning their new
offerings from HTC and Palm for the iPhone and AT&T, Sprint's stock
dropped last week on that report.

But simply unlocking the phone is not illegal.
