Hi,

I am interested in other people's opinion on the different PDA/Pocket PC like devices. Currently i have the Toshiba E800 and i do not think much of it. My screen has gone down the tubes twice in 2 months (2 new units) so i think i will leave toshiba alone for a while.

I was looking at the Sony PEGUX50 but rather than go out and buy it on a whim (like i did with the toshiba) i was wondering what you guys think.

Absolute essentials are Bluetooth/Wireless lan and the ability to open/edit Office files (doc, xls, ppt)

If anyone out there has any other suggestions i would be glad to hear them!

Thankyou

Stephen

Sony has good quality everything else, so why not PDA's too? I've heard the HP Ipaqs are quite dependable. I also know one person who is quite satisfied with his Dell Axim.

When all else fails, beat the %*#$! out of it!!!

Hi

We make security for PDAs so we have done a lot of test and have a lot of customers with 1000s of devices.

Question No 1 has to be which OS?

The choices are:

Symbian - mainly a phone OS - smart phones may have the functionality you require.

Palm - Sony and Palm use these - though the Sony Erricson collaberation is on Symbian. Blackberry.

Pocket PC - who doesn't use it ? well HP / Compaq chosen solution as well as Fujitsu Siemens, Toshiba, Dell etc

Where are you ? Europe are buying Pocket PC devices especially the commercials. The main manufacturers are going down the Microsoft OS route - and there are a lot of applications being written on the back of .Net

If you decide Palm is where you want to be - then Sony is a great manufacturer.

Toshiba - in my opinion have got it wrong - we have received many complaints about the reliability of the devices. I would never buy one.(At the moment).

HP Ipaq originally made by Compaq is the market leader by far - good devices - relaible and many functions - but pricey.

Dell biting on HPs heels - much better value for money, good looking, reliable, lots of functions - my choice for best buy.

Fujitsu Siemens - nice looking device - not taken up well in the market it would appear.

Don't forget the Smart Phone offerings - or an XDA2 which is a great device with a camera as well as all the other bits and a telephone.

If you go down the Pocket PC route - drop me an e-mail and I will send you some free encryption and password software - philip.crompton@newmediasecurity.com

Good luck chosing - remember - whatever you chose today will already be out of date - so maybe - don't invest your life savings - throw it away in three years time.

I've been using various PDAs with different OSses for years and found PalmOS is still the best there is. Great battery-life on nearly all models and you can edit all your Office-documents, sheets, mail, etc. with it.

As to whether the Sony is the best option depends on many more factors. I'm using the PalmOne Treo-model myself as it is also a phone with GPRS, but if it is just the PDA you need, then the Sony is a fair option.

If you're gonna get a pocket PC try the dell
outlet, they are cheap and quite sturdy!

www.dell.co.uk/outlet

they are refurbished mind, hence the good
price.
