Visor PDA - BLACK SCREEN

My PDA is a Handspring Visor Platinum. Problem is it fell 18 inches from the couch to the floor. It was in the case and landed on the carpet. Now all I get is the black screen (sometimes the black flickers). I called the helpdesk 800 number. They were able to walk me thru the fix but it did not work. Their solution is to send it back to Handspring for repairs. Repairs cost about $120, which is the same as a new one. A refurbished one will cost about $99. I have taken the PDA apart and looked carefully at all the wires and connections. Nothing seems to be broken or disconnected. Is this a hardware or software problem? I would appreciate any help.
