You need to get the updated usb drivers for the Clie cradle. Which model Clie do you have? I have a 710C that recently flashed to a 760C and had to also install new drivers from that flash in order for XP to see it.

I also have a Clie' N610C. Though several people have tried to help me sync in WinXP,
my (*&%*(^% machine will not even recognize the hotsync cradle.
Please read Sony's official statement:
http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/clie/winxp-support.html

Good luck, but I think you will have to wait to hotsync with WinXP.

I have an S300 CLIE, and just upgraded to Win XP, and even having downloaded from Sony the XP functional software, Windows isn't detecting the cradle - looks like we're all getting the same problems.

Make sure that you get your issues onto this forum - we all need to make a fuss about this if we want to stick with our existing PDA's.

Hi,
i had the same problem, but solved it in this way.
1. Install the new software with disconnected cradle
2. connect cradle
3. open the device manager of xp
4. press hotsync button and wait for com4 in the device manager.
5. double click when its there and update the driver manually from the directory where the desktop software is installed
6. now it worked for me

I have a PEG-S300 and had the same problem. I resolved it but then when I rebooted and tried to hotsync again the problem came back. I installed the update that's on sony's site, and chose "custom" and "USB PDA Switcher" as well as the regular stuff in the setup. Then I did a similar trick to response number 6, but instead I went into regedit and manually removed the key associated with the USB. I was then able to install the right driver during the few seconds XP detects the Clie during hotsync. I thought my problems were solved.. but... when I rebooted, it didn't work again!

If you have the money to upgrade to XP, then upgrade your S300 to a decent Clie model. $199 will buy the new T-415 and it IS compatible with XP and has enhanced IR. You can't expect absolutely everything to work with a new OS. If everything was working before, why upgrade your OS?

I just aquired a 610C and when I try to sync, it freezes my computer. Sometimes it works, but most of the time, it just freezes. I installed the new software, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

I have a Sony S300, and use Windows XP Professional. I was having alot of trouble syncing with XP, but the instructions in response #6 work like a charm. Just make sure you manually select the driver "PalmUSBD"
That's all you have to do.
