I just need someone to clarify exactly how someone would get email on a PDA. How does it happen?

My only experience is broadband, and that requires you to be in your residence. You can't access you account (including email) at someone else's place. How do PDA's get around this?

Granted, those PDA's with wifi would allow a person to park their car alongside a house with an unprotected wireless network and let him cruise to Gmail/hotmail and access a web-based email site... but other than that, what else is possible?

(and I don't mean BlackBerrys. Those I understand. I mean your average iPaq or Palm with wifi.)

Connect your PDA to your cell phone via Bluetooth or serial/usb cable and you're online.
