Hi guys - I need some advice pse (and I'm new to computing.net)...

I currently use a dated Palm Vx, mainly for scheduling - which I then sync with my PC. It needs replacing and the default is likely to be a Tungsten or m515...

But, I'm also likely to need a laptop (Tablet) in the near future, so I'm wondering if I can optimise my choice. I'm not sure the gap I'm tring to fill is a pocket PC, because I expect the laptop to do that job, however, I'm out of touch, so I would welcome your views.

So, do I need a PDA and Laptop, or can I manage with a pocket PC??

pocke pc is just a windows version of pda, you will need both.

the pocket pc will hold some limited word/excell files and such but it's still a scaled down sort of version of every thing on a full blown windows laptop.

they are still just date/time/contact managers. some have extra toys that can be attached, but not much.

What would you use a tablet for? The main reason that people use a tablet for is screen size or the ability to use MS Windows for PC with their own apps.

If you can find the apps that support your system then you can use a pda. I am getting one with built in usb and cf and mmc. The cf slot will have a wireless and I can use either pcanwhere or vnc to access almost any other system.

With the whole PDA VS. PPC I would choose PPC....No PDA or PPC can even try and replicate what a laptop can. Period. But when you said the default choice is a tungston or a 515 i would seriously look into getting a PPC instead...not to much more expensive. I have the HP iPAQ h1910 w/128MB SD card and i love it for alot of things but it just cant fill a laptops shoes although it can do some really awsome things.

My Choice: Get a Laptop and a PPC.
