I'm using a Palm Zire with a USB synchronization cable. My computer is Compaq Presario 908EA running Windows XP Pro.
Actually when I try to synchronize (even the very first time), Windows XP gets really slow and doesn't detect the Palm. You must proceed to a hard reboot of the computer to come back to Windows.
I tried to reinstall the OS, the USB connector drivers, the Palm Desktop, the Palm drivers, the Palm OS (by doing a hard reset), installing Windows and Compaq patchs, RomPAQ (BIOS update for compaq). But nothing. The system still gets very slow and doesn't detect the Palm when clicking on the "Sync" button in the Palm.
Then I tried to check some other hardware with my computer: perfect! The USB camera and my Sony MD are detected pretty fine. I can plug and unplug at any time and it works.
So I did with the Palm on another computer and... it works fine.So my question is: are there any compatibility problems between a Compaq laptop and a Palm?
If anyone can help... thanks in advance! (I'm becoming crazy with those computers... :o))

I found the solution by myself (yep yep :oP). Here is what I did:
1) Install the Compaq Patch called "System improvements for Windows XP"
2) Then flash the keyboard firmware (another Compaq Patch)
3) Finaly flash the BIOS (using another Compaq Patch)... and it works nicely :oD
I don't know which one of those patches makes my computer and Palm work properly, but it does anyway. So don't try understand.

No, no, no, wait.
You actually P U R C H A S E D a Zire????!!!!
...and do you drive a round in a YUGO too?
