Had this same issue while trying to IR sync with my IIIx. Everytime I tapped the "soft" hot sync icon on the palm display screen, I was greeted with the "Fatal Exception" message and a Reset button. Tapping the reset on screen would only work about 10% of the time, usually had to do a soft reset by poking the reset button on the back of the pilot. Finally ended up beaming all my Memos and To-Do items to another Palm as a temporary backup, and did a Hard Reset on my palm. Everything is working now since the Hard Reset. Hope this Helps!! Good Luck.

I have the same problem too. The hard-set doesn't fix the problem. The problem comes back after the first hotsync.
