I've tried everything on this web site, and I appreciate all the work people have done to help out all us pda users, but I'm still in trouble!
I'm trying to sync my sony clie peg-s300: I plug in the USB cradle -- nothing happens. This is off of a new install, uninstalled everything old, clean windows so-to-speak. So then I press the HotSync button, and Windows picks up that there is a USB device, but when I try to install that device, I get an error message from windows saying that there was a problem installing the device.
I start over to remove all the USB stuff that doesn't work, restart Windows, and try to install the hardware using Add/Remove Hardware wizard. When I finally found the newest and greatest drivers and installation stuff on the Sony web site, I have a Sony Handheld installed that doesn't work, and still no sync-ing. I press the HotSync button on my cradle again, and I get the same USB installation attempt again! It doesn't work again, and now I just have this device hooked up that does work because Windows says "it is not attached."
Please help if you've had problems with Windows 2000 not being able to install the stuff necessary to hookup a cradle at all.
Thanks,
desperately frustrated man

I got your back, man:
Assuming you still have your original software installed, download the 7.5 MB Palm Desktop update from http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/clie/s300/softupdates/
Once downloaded, run the exe file from C: and follow the prompts. Select CUSTOM installation and make sure to check
USB SWITCHER. Finish the installation and open your device manager. Press the hotsync button on the cradle and when it attempts to connect, watch your Dev. Mgr. screen for the new COM port (with a yellow warning sign). Right click on the bad PEG COM port and select update. "Install from a spec. location -> Don't search, I will choose ->
Have Disk -> Browse -> to C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\USB_Drivers and select PALMUSBD. Ignore compatibility warnings and finish the hardware install wizard. Make sure Hotsync Mgr and USB Switcher are running and then retry the HotSync. After using this fix, I finally got my PEG-S300 to work with WinXP.I hope it works. Please let me know.

Wow!
I didn't think I'd actually get a response! I tried the fix, and I had to do it a couple of times to get to the "bad" yellow device before it disappeared! (Windows would only say it was a device if it was trying to sync, so I had to act fast while it was still attempting to connect.) But now it works! Thanks for the help man!
