Considering purchasing a 512 MB expansion card for a Tungsten E.
Found some on E-bay for $66 but the seller says it is a non-PalmOne card. Are there potential problems in using a third-party vendor expansion card?

Don't think you'd encounter problems. I've used both Dane-Elec and Kingston SD cards on the T|E which both work fine. But you should probably download the SDIO update just in case.
