Mail synching with Notes and Palm

Trying to synch Lotus Notes 5.08 e-mail with a Palm Tungsten T2 using Intellisync 4. The new generation Palms only ship with Versamail, which is strictly a wireless client and thus cannot sync locally with a PIM such as Notes. To get around this, we've loaded a simple Palm mail client which we downloaded from the Intellisync website. We can now synch Notes e-mail locally with this mail client on the Palm, however we have been finding this solution very unreliable. Mail synching will work for a few weeks, then without warning will stop working. The hotsync process simply continues forever until we end the process manually. We've tried the following without luck:
-archiving most of the Notes inbox so that only a few inbox messages will synch to Palm -installing Intellisync 5.13 (ran into other various problems) -uninstalled and reinstalled mail client on Palm
If anybody has experienced related problems, I would really appreciate any feedback on how to resolve this issue.
