M500 main menu changing rapidly

after a few minutes, the main menu of the palm 500 starts changing about once per second, as if the home-button is pressed continously. no problems in other applications, only when returning to main menu, it starts again. is this a software problem or an electro-mechanical problem (like faulty digitizer signals?)
