losing pop3 mail settings

IBM Z50 palms using a ras server on windows 2k (also tried nt 4.0 with service pack 3) the palms have windows ce 3.0 service pack 1 using microsoft exchange. the problem is that after a period of use these units lose their pop settings for no apparent reason (no error message nothing) they just lose retention of them and after that start to get flaky sometimes any ideas what is causing this it would be a lot of help
