Jornada 690 Syncing via LAN Card

I have installed a 802.11b LAN card into my Jornada 690 and can successfully access the internet. However, I would like to access my Win XP PC (which is on the same LAN as the 802.11b WAP) and Sync with Outlook using Active Sync 3.5 which indicates it can use the LAN to sync - but does not work with no errors reported. So I still use the Serial port to sync with!! Has anyone managed this??
