This is a frustrating problem that's plagued me for the past two or three months. The amber notification light on top of the unit starts flashing a while after I put it down following usage. I'll pick up the unit after a half hour or more and notice that the light is flashing, but there is no program running and no event occurring that I can see.
There have been times where I may not have used the Jornada for most (or all) of a day but when I do pick it up, I've seen that the continuous flashing has drained the battery some. To stop it, I often have to just pick up the unit and start using it. I make sure all the programs are stopped/closed and then I push the power button to "off". Later on, I'll notice the light is flashing again. The flashing is a single flash every 2-3 seconds.
I have checked again and again for programs that could be running and closed them, notifications of events on the calendar for the day, removed the CF card, changed batteries, done soft resets, done a hard reset, cleaned up temporary files, etc. Nothing seems to work.
There ARE those rare times when I will pick up the unit after a while and notice the light is NOT flashing. If there is a pattern to this, it's eluded me.
I've called HP about the problem and they weren't much help. The tech I spoke with gave me the same solutions I've already tried at least a few times before calling. Then she implicated some third-party software might be the cause and that I would have to uninstall everything one-by-one to weed out the problem. Ugh. I run a lot of third party programs on my Jornada but usually eliminate anything that may cause operational problems right off the bat.
I use a CF card where many of the third party programs reside and I also use the extended battery (w/MMC slot) that came with the PC card adapter (which I rarely use) because it lasts just as long as the standard extended battery.
Has anyone here experienced this problem? I'd love some suggestions!
